Our Church History

On August 7, 1937, 37 people gathered at the home of Reverend H.B. Sanders and formed the North Austin Baptist Church. The church met for a time in a tent on 39 1/2 St. with electricity supplied by an extension cord running to C. W. Webb's home.

A store building at 40th St. and Alice Ave. (now Medical parkway) was used until the permanent site was purchased in 1939. The first building was completed in 1940 with volunteer labor, and the church was renamed Rosedale Baptist Church.

The original building was replaced in 1946 and over the years many additions and various remodeling was done including a new sanctuary, finished in 1965. The older building was demolished in 1985 to make way for the present education building, dedicated in March, 1986.

The round stained glass window from the old sanctuary building was installed in the new education building. A third building, which was first used to house the Rosedale Baptist School, completes the church complex at 44th and Maybelle.

Rosedale Baptist is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention, Baptist General Convention of Texas, and Austin Baptist Association.
